Text 2 May March to $10,000

Dusty Schmidt (leatherass9 on pokerstars, writer of Treat Your Poker Like a Business) made a recent post in his blog (http://www.dustyschmidt.net/2010/04/) that he was setting a goal to make $100,000 from anything poker-related before heading out to Vegas at the end of May. I’ve decided to do the same but, being as busto as I am, I’m setting my goal at $10,000. I started on the 27th of April, and right now I have a white board next to my computer a la 2M2MM with my totals for each day. Luckily a few days ago, I was at the table where the $300K BBJ was hit, and I got a nice chunk of change for that. Right now, after 5 days, I’m at +$1826, putting me at a little ahead of pace. I’m leaving for Vegas on the 25th, but since I’ll be in Memphis from the 11th-14th, I’ll need to play more hands to compensate for those days that I won’t play at all.

It really sucks not having any money with Vegas not far away, but I’ll be there for 50 days, and I figure to have a healthy bankroll again by mid-Juneish and then I’ll still be able to take advantage of the soft side games at the WSOP. I’m so excited for Vegas. It’ll be nice to reunite with some of the people that I stayed with the first summer I went out to Vegas, and since I’m taking my dog Ace, it’s gonna be even more awesome.

Even though the past several months have been really shitty for me poker-wise, things are starting to look up. Live poker in Florida is FINALLY going to allow uncapped buyins starting July 1st. Right now there’s a $100 buyin limit regardless of stakes (yup, that’s 10 BBs for 5/10). So when I get back from Vegas I’ll pretty much be back and forth from the Hard Rock, and it could turn out to be a really profitable year, despite a rough start. Hopefully this summer turns out well and I can get back on my feet and be playing 200nl and 400nl by summer’s end.
